Spills from life: Everything that shines is not Gold, Democracy for example.

The term, Democracy is derived from the Greek word, dēmokratia, where demos mean ‘people’ and Kratos mean ‘rule’. Athenian democracy developed around the fifth century B.C.E. Admittedly, the Greek idea of democracy was different from the present-day understanding of the concept because, in Athens, all adult citizens were required to take an active part in the government; hence ‘Rule by the People’.
However, over the many passing clouds, the literal meaning of the word remained the same, but its socio-political interpretations changed with every new chapter in the history of mankind- World Wars tipped the political powers on the map, Industrial revolution took a bad turn to monopolise the rule of Corporates globally, Consumerism became more than a recreational drug to become an addiction, Colonisation personified Globalisation, The cries of global warming fell on cold consciouses, Pandemic has become a political football where goal-post keeps moving for the data and stats, etc., etc., and mankind is in perpetual quarantine inside the pigeon holes of disparities. Consequently, we feel isolated in our ‘differences’ with others. GMT has engineered a mix of hatred for one another, and we feed on it voluntarily, or so we think.
So, you see, subsequently, the power of the rule was taken from people and claimed by a few in the modern definition of democracy. Hang on, isn’t that close to monocracy? Or absolutism? Of course, this is a satirical democracy – A myth created to amuse masses, while the real rulers suck the oxygen from the atmosphere around them. Wait a minute, is that what pollution does? Of course! The progeny of the Industrial Revolution – the sulphur factories eroding the monument of love, called the Taj Mahal- a symbol of love fading away in human society. A profitable and manipulative scheme by the real rulers of the world.
Democracy has changed the names of the real rulers over the course of history – from Kings/Queens to Colonisers to Slave Masters to the present-day Politicians. Whatever the name, it’s the same DNA. The ingenuity of polity or the establishment has been inventing many schemes to manipulate the masses (who are officially referred to as citizens now, not subjects in democratic rule). The most dexterous plan has been to induce a spectrum of hatred in our vision: colour, class, creed, sexuality, physical appearance, thoughts, are all seen as diverse shades of hatred; and in a few countries, there is another ingenious division that been created – i.e. caste system. All this drama to make democracy seem real and all wrongs be blamed on the common man himself – wow! Villainy, but with such sophistication- just giving the devil his due!
Anyway, rather than write a history of different mutations of democracy, I would like to refer to an incident which took place recently in the capital of the so-called biggest Democracy in the world to prove the debate in this post, showing all the shades of the spectrum of hatred at the ground level of society – Yes, it’s an incident which took place India, where a 20 year old woman was punished by being gang raped, tortured, and then her head shaven and face blackened, then paraded in the streets, because she didn’t entertain the advances of a teenager boy in her locality! The attack was instigated and carried out by the family of the teenage boy, who had committed suicide due to rejection by the young lady. The most shocking bit here is not just the sexual attack and public humiliation, but the fact that the WOMEN ( apparently related to the teenage boy) joined in beatings and cheering the men in their abuse of the helpless woman! It might or might not be relevant to add that the victimised woman belonged to the minority community of Sikhs, and the family was from the majority populace of Hindus. Whether there was or not a religious-based motivation for hatred in this case, one thing is clear- the family and mob involved in this attack proves that the democratic ‘right of expression’, however animalistic it might be, is blessed by the Socio- judicial machinery of modern day democracy! That can be seen in the fact that the Police force remained passive and inactive, till the political necessity during the local election time compelled them to make a few token belated arrests. Humanity was already raped, injured, and paraded naked in the streets of democracy. It makes perplexes me when books still defy reality to describe democracy as ‘rule of the people’ and ‘by the people’!!
This is anarchy and mobocracy, but why do the real rulers, the new world monarchs, the politicians, the slave masters fuel the fire of such lawlessness? Because this is how autonomy for the real rulers can be enforced – People punish each other and gnaw at humaneness. This also keeps them busy and focused in misdirection; leaving all the freedom of so-called democracy for the real rulers of the world.
Enough said, and I would like to finish at a hopeful note…..well, a spark perhaps….ok, a dim but certainly an amber of hope. There are still few homo sapiens left, who believe in justice and protests around the world for the Rights of the masses. The recent farmers’ protest in India which brought the  rigid regime to its knees, certainly a great attempt to resuscitate the dying (original) democracy, the protests around the world to raise the voice that ‘Black life matters’ has been certainly a glimpse of real democracy, every drop of blood that trickled from the veins of the protesters defy the autocratic- imposter -democracy’s truncheons, no knee on the neck could suffocate the whole mankind; because there always be those awakened men and women who would refuse to toe the line leading to the demise of the human race.
Any attack on a vulnerable woman, child, man, or animal is an attack on humanity itself. Human beings are defined by two words put together- ‘man’ + ‘kind’. Without kindness, mankind is incomplete and with an incomplete entity, wholesome democracy can’t be built.
Just to add to the incident mentioned above, a Sikh group from Punjab has gone to Delhi not only to protest against the filthy act but also to raise awareness that silence too is participation in rape. Keep up your efforts people. Know your Rights and obligations, understand the difference between anarchy and freedom, have mutual respect for one another, observe what separates a human being from a beast. There is a great need, which is on the increase rapidly, to support each other to become a better person, through own example. There is no utopia, but if we as decent people unite, the democratic machinery could be persuaded and compelled to act by the people, work for the people, and deliver justice to the masses.
The global mass of people need to collaboratively fight against what we’ve become and support each other to return to the decent core we were supposed to be. It’s a war worth every battle. Claim back the real democracy, a sign of being truly civilised.
Please join me to support every victim of rape, every human being exploited, every child being neglected, and every animal being abused.

    1. Absolutely and Olivia, I also feel that we the ‘masses’, the undervalued populace, in the world have made it possible for the few to wipe their feet on our conscious, mindsets, well..life as a whole. We’re so busy bickering amongst ourselves that we never realised when did we even become slaves to our own weaknesses? True positivity is in true freedom, and a positive mindset is the key to happiness. Therefore, mankind needs to re-prioritise life and unite in the mission to free our thoughts and emotions from the corporate grip. Starting point shall be to shun baseless hatred linked to colour, class, creed, and see others as human beings.

    1. Thank you for your valuable feedback Dawn, as always. Yes, I do feel that the common-masses as most of us are labeled, have been targetted by the few since the records began. The sad thing is, most of us are intoxicated with the materialistic poison to the extent of forgetting what our rights are. But so long people, even few and farther apart, realize what’s going on, there is a flicker of hope. Appreciate your feedback. Stay connected and stay safe🙏

  1. Actually the Ancients believed Democracy to be the lowest form of government, first was Theocracy, followed by Monarchy, then Democracy, only superior to Anarchy, and not only that, Democracy it’s Historically the briefest, not since Ancient Greece we had a democracy until the USA independence in 1776, now accused to be an Empire, around the World, most other Nations took a while to become republics, and we still have Kingdoms, Socialist republics, and not to talk of many Dictatorships, who pass as Democracies.
Great post by the way. 😊💖👍

    1. Everyone has their own style of writing and preference in reading. I also appreciate sharing your thoughts but am just fine with my style and content. I think you didn’t understand the message, but it’s okay as every subject is not for every reader. Thank you for reading the post though. Also, thank you for your feedback. Stay safe. 👍

  2. Wow thanks so much for sharing 😊 I can feel your spirit coming through in this post, not just your heart and head. True spirits care about these sorts of things and don’t worry about being pointed at and called silly. I am aghast at the rape incident you mentioned. I cannot at all believe that humans could have done this. Yet we have done so many horrible things like this in the past.

I don’t know what Indian democracy is like. I live in Canada but I guess the problem here is that it isn’t technically “rule by the people”. We elect politicians every 2 or 3 or 4 years or whatever but then they can do whatever they want once they’re in power. Though in Canada if a Prime Minister behaves badly he/she can be kicked out. Supposed to be some sort of checks & balances. Democracy doesn’t seem to guarantee goodness. Most people in my country don’t even vote lol. I personally like democracy but I agree that we’re living in a weak version of it. At its best, it stands for the idea that everyone is free, everyone is equal, that there is more than one type of person and that this is all celebrated, sharing, caring, empathy, giving, saving, standing together. A Family. But one whose bonds are too weak? The family bonds amongst that teenage boy’s family overpowered the collective bonds of humanity and they did the atrocious act of raping that girl & more. A Global Family is such a beautiful thing. What ideas do you have for making the world a better democracy?

    1. Thank you very much for your detailed and insightful comments. You’re right that Canada might not be a perfect democracy, but there are checks and balance, as is also the case in most global democracies. In my views, while my wishful thinking might yearn for a perfect governing structure of ‘by the people’ and ‘for the people’, but utopia is what mankind must pursue, despite might knowing that perfection is to be sought, not conquered. So, my idea of better democracy would be when people actively participate in the events happening globally, without bias or narrow thinking of ‘not my business’. It’s only when we react to support any community being persecuted anywhere in the world, the authoritarian regimes could be restrained. Political corruption thrives by dividing common population, based on religion, colour, class, caste, etc. etc. If not all, obviously, but even if more people than today begin to seek global information and support global humanitarian issues, tomorrow could be better.
Thank you once again for taking valuable time to comment. Stay blessed and stay connected. 🙏🙏👍👍🎉🎉👌

      1. You’re welcome 😊😊 That’s a great idea. Us not seeing things as “not my business”. If we did that then we’d have peace and no wolves or tyrants would be able to conquer or enslave or torture humanity. We would police ourselves. Vladimir Putin wouldn’t be able to get away with anything if 7 billion people said “STOP”. I don’t know what things are like in India. I know you guys are transitioning from a caste-based agricultural society to becoming more like a democratic Western society. You guys have given alot to us. We owe meditation practices to you (and the Buddhists). Lots of white people find great meaning in Hindu and Sikh spirituality. Lots of our people have also adopted your vegetarianism. Me personally, I can’t get enough of the million spices of Indian food 🌶️

      2. Thank you. However, just to clarify that SIKHS are not Hindus and in fact, not Indians either. Our homeland, Punjab, is occupied by India, as it was gifted to the Hindus by the British colonisers while decolonising the whole area, for their ‘secret’ services against their own people. Very irresponsible and unjust of the British Colonisers. I have written about this sad and unjust history in my post. Sikhs and many other minorities are uprising for independence from the Indian despotic regime. So, once again, Sikhs are neither Hindus nor Indians. Hope it clarifies further.
Thank you for your kind comments. 🙏🙏🎉🎉

      3. Wow I had no idea. Thanks for clarifying and bringing further light on it. My knowledge of the Eastern World is shaky. I did not know that Sikh originally lived in their own nation. That would be pre-British conquest? I’m sorry your people had to go through this slavery. I did research the difference between Hindu and Sikh religion… there is alot of differences. How is the movement towards Sikh independence going? Has “India” ever really existed… in the sense of a united subcontinent? Thanks for sharing 🌟

      4. It’s refreshing to share views with a person who is interested to know about other cultures and communities- exactly my view towards creating a better world of understanding. So, I really appreciate your interest and contributions.
Pre British colonisation, it was a sub-continent of 565 princely states which were independent, with major kingdoms like Mughals and Sikh Kingdom comprising of many states now swallowed into the unified British created country called, India. This was never a country before the British named their colony as India. The independent princely states were encompassed as one colony for easier rule by the British. In fact, the Nation under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh emperor, could not be conquered in the battlefield while he was alive. So, he was slow- poisoned as part of the conniving and sinister plot engineered by British, in cahoots with bribed courtiers. It’s after his death that the British claimed the Sikh territory and kidnapped his young son, Dileep Singh snatching him from his mother so he could be exiled in England. This is how the throne of Punjab was usurped, though as per the treaty British took over as the caretakers till the young prince was of the age to rule. But it’s not a surprise that this was never honoured. However, it was a bigger deception and absolutely immoral to decolonise all the different provinces, including Punjab, as a collective country and hand it on a plate to the Brahmin community who had never fought in the battlefield or worked to make a nation in history. They have been an intolerant community who have always kept even the Hindu community divided by creating caste system and proclaiming themselves as the highest caste. British exploited this to their advantage and used Brahmins as their tool to ‘Divide and conquer’. India was a gift to them for their such services. As a result, many other minorities from the previous independent states are struggling today for freedom from such discriminatory society and majoritarian despotic politics. Hence, the Sikh fight for re-claiming their lost nation, to be named as ‘Khalistan.’
Once again, it’s always a pleasure to share history and views with receptive readers like yourself.
        Stay connected. Stay blessed. 🙏🙏👍🎉

      5. Thank you 😊😊 It is beautiful to learn all this and support the Sikh community in some small way by hearing what they need. I’m guessing that pre-British Punjab was not caste-based. That seems to be a Hindu thing. How is the drive for independence going? I have never heard about the “unified India is bogus” thing. It must have been kept from Western media and curriculum. In general we are taught very little about non-Western countries in my country (Canada). Yeah things always seem to go bad when one group (Brahmins) hold all the power. There are alot of Sikhs in my town. They are hardworking and never cause trouble (crime, drugs) unlike other minority groups in my town but they all look unhappy 😔 I have a feeling India would do better if it returned to being many little different states. I have heard that dividing India and Pakistan was a British idea too. Thank you for sharing 🪯❤️
