While You Could Roam The Earth: A Trip to Madeira

A holiday does not change the world, or the circumstances manifested out of messy politics, however a change of scene is a break from the mundane life on the one hand and escape from the demoralising so-called news headlines, even though we all know that in the name of ‘NEWS’ we only get biased, opinionated and judgmental views approved by the most powerful lobby in a country and Globally on a larger scale.
Anyway, back to Funchal. It’s one of the most beautiful hilly cities with rustic, pastoral countryside flavours too.
However, please avoid driving there unless you are an experienced and brave-hearted driver, because from a 27-degree incline, it can sharply reach a 45% gradient. Not just the driver but the passengers can’t help being tense all this time, even though they all pretend to listen to the group’s favourite music to keep up the driver’s morale. Luckily, my son is an experienced driver and nothing fazes him easily. I too tested my alignment while praying silently in the car, and was encouraged! ☺☺
One must also check the weather before planning a tracking trip to Pico Do Arieiro, as we learned the hard way. It was windy, cold, and with showers posing a formidable challenge to our flimsy wind-cheaters. But thank God for the lovely cafe. Nevertheless, the determined group persevered in climbing to the top and managed a quick mini- track experience too.
The Monte Palace tropical garden is absolutely breathtaking! The trees, the flowers, the sculptures, the flamingos, the water features, and taste the traditional Poncha. It’s a piece of real art and a must-visit in Funchal, via cable car.
The Airbnb was surrounded by sea view and natural beauty, which I couldn’t help wishing was the first view when I wake up every day.
For me, the most important factor in a foreign trip is the local people, and Funchal denizens are some of the most pleasant and friendly people in the world.
As every holiday, the Funchal trip too came to an end, and back to the biased blasting news about wars and conflicts. But I am a great believer in- ‘If yesterday didn’t last, then today too shall pass’. One day at a time, and war too shall end. In the meantime, visit the world beyond those borders, which have escaped the blind power of the egotistic man- mind.
